Sweet: Montgamé apricot

Emblematic of Grand Châtellerault, the apricots from the hills of Montgamé are called Albergé, they appear after the passage of the Sarazine army in 732. During the peak season you will find them in abundance at the Vergers des Savoies in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne.

We took over the orchards 20 years ago. There have always been fruits but not always the same productions. At one time, orchards consisted of apple and cherry trees. Then, the apricot trees, in reference to 732 the Battle.

Savory: Goat cheese

Poitou contains many culinary delights, particularly in terms of goat cheese. The most famous of them being the Chabichou du Poitou. The latter is made from pure goat's milk and has benefited from the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée since 1990 and the Protected Designation of Origin since 1996. Discover this authentic cheese and enjoy it fresh, semi-dry, dry , or very dry.

The tasty: Melon from Haut-Poitou

The Haut-Poitou melon is grown in the clay-limestone soils of Haut Poitou, which allows it to benefit from the humidity of these lands all season long. To date, thirteen producers perpetuate the market gardening tradition of Haut-Poitou melon, thus obtaining the European PGI sign of origin and quality (protected geographical indication) in 1998. To be enjoyed without further delay as a starter or dessert!

The typical: Broyé du poitou

Broyé du Poitou is a dry flat cake made from flour, sugar, butter and egg. It is found in the form of small pancakes or large cakes. Tradition would like it to be broken and not cut, hence the name “crushed”! You can also find filled versions of the crushed. Try the experience!!

Hot or cold: Stuffed Poitevin

Poitevin stuffing can be served cold as a starter or hot as a main course. It is a pâté composed of green vegetables (sorrel, chard, spinach depending on the recipes) and pork, it is cooked wrapped in a large cabbage leaf. It’s the must-see in Poitou!

The thirst-quencher: Cabernet Franc from Haut-Poitou

Taste the Cabernet Franc from Haut Poitou AOC, its flavors of red fruits, blackcurrant and even spices will seduce you. On sale in the Grand Châtellerault Tourist Office shops. Alcohol abuse is dangerous for health.
