Visite de la Poste aux Chevaux des Ormes, Relais de poste du XVIIIème siècle classé Monument Historique. Site privé.
The Ormes post house
Listed as a Historic Monument since 1994, it is open to individual and group visits (by reservation) for part of the year and during Heritage Days.
The Relais des Ormes is located on the Paris-Bordeaux axis, the Route d'Espagne, whose route was revised in 1752 when the Count of Argenson, owner of the Barony of Ormes, Secretary of State for War, was also Grand Master and Superintendent of Posts under Louis XV. Its construction appears to date from 1752, perhaps as a stud farm for the château.
The buildings, identical in twos, form a vast quadrilateral of approximately 70 meters on each side around a courtyard with a pool intended for refreshing and bathing horses. The decoration consists of tuffeau arches and rendered rubble facings. A first gate opens onto the N10 and a second leads to a riding school covered with a paneled vault and pierced by an oculus for the descent of fodder. It is flanked by two stables on either side.
