I've had several opportunities to visit Ingrandes-sur-Viennejust north of Châtellerault, half an hour from Touraine and Berry. And it occurred to me: this commune ticks all the boxes of a 'Slow' destination!

It boasts a number of gentle footpaths, including along the banks of the Vienne, and almost 40 kilometres of signposted footpaths for walking and cycling. hiking walking and cyclo, d'a landscaped lake and even an electric recharging point.

Ecotourism when you like it! So I've decided to share with you my three favourites from Ireland...

Ô Petit Marché de Steph: food for locavores

Every time I go up to the counter, I fall head over heels in love with the crunchy 'L'Épicerie d'autrefois' model, made and given to the manager by a loyal and thoughtful customer.

After 17 years as a production manager, Stéphanie Plault decided to open a shop selling local produce in early 2019. She chose a former pharmacy in the centre of Ingrandes, on the busy Nationale 10.

Passionate about market gardening, this dynamic young woman grows a large proportion of the summer vegetables on her shelves herself, in a field just behind her shop. Steph's Little Market. It's hard to imagine a shorter circuit! Every week, Stéphanie publishes on its Facebook page the contents of the seasonal basket to be collected from the shop. Convenient for visitors and locals alike.

His other suppliers? Mainly producers from the Vienne and neighbouring Indre-et-Loire departments. I particularly recommend the clochette pasta from Alice's Fabric (Sénillé-Saint-Sauveur), walnut oil from theHuilerie Lépine (Availles-en-Châtellerault) or the shortbread from the Biscuit factory in Lencloître.

Le Petit Trianon campsite: a 4-star green getaway

When I enter the verdant grounds of an 18th century manor house in the heart of the Châtellerault countryside, I immediately think: "What a haven of peace! Here, space is not a luxury. Peace, comfort and nature reign supreme. With the owners' blessing, of course.

Marine and Olivier Dervyn, who were previously computer engineers in Grenoble, fell under the spell of the Petit Trianon estate in 2017. Since then, they have provided top-of-the-range facilities and services in an exceptional setting, while remaining true to their values.
The fact that the campsite belongs to the Les Castels chain is a good indicator for fans of sustainable tourism. Other labels displayed at the entrance to the estate include Clé verte, Accueil vélo, refuge LPO and Qualité Tourisme.
An eco-friendly paradise for slow-paced holidays.

At Saint-Ustre, holidaymakers can choose between pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, a state-of-the-art mobile home with wooden terrace or unusual accommodation (glamping, tipi, tree house, 19th-century stone cottage). Everyone can enjoy the beautiful swimming pool at the foot of a small feudal castle, the playgrounds, the sports fields, etc.
Special mention for the summer entertainment: creative activities for children during the day, a friendly atmosphere in the evening for all the family, farmers' markets on Monday evenings, concerts...

Sissi's faith as your ambassador: a stay here is a lovely gift, to give or to treat yourself, for a change of scenery and relaxation, even just a stone's throw from home.

Aigle factory outlet: handmade boots

You're probably familiar with this master rubber-maker and ambassador for Made in France. But did you know that these boots, which fashionistas all over the world love, are made in Ingrandes-sur-Vienne?

Since 1963, the Aigle International workshops have been located on a 30-hectare site, a former American military base. Every day, 200 craftsmen make 4,000 pairs of boots. The most famous rubber boots are cut, glued and assembled by hand. Genuine craftsmanship!

A return to nature, walks in the woods and holidays on the farm all require the right equipment. So twice a year I take my little tribe to the elegant factory outlet. What a pleasure it is to wander through the colourful aisles, trying on technical models that combine style and function, and seeing the joy on Arthur and Hugo's faces! The icing on the cake is the low prices at the checkout.

Factory outlet open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm.
