Located at the confluence of the Vienne and the Clain, the ancient city of Vetus Pictavis dates back almost 2000 years. The city extended over nearly 80 hectares and dates from the Emperor Augustus. To the south-east, the 10-seat theater offers a gigantic vision of the ancient monuments of this era with its 000 meters in diameter. The Gallo-Romans from the city and surrounding areas came to see the artists perform in the orchestra (performance space). Around the theater are numerous testimonies of an intense life, a very well-designed grid of streets, houses, temples, an artisanal district, with potters' kiln offices. All of this was located along the Poitiers-Tours Roman road, an essential location for commercial exchanges with Rome. The city was destroyed towards the end of the 116nd century by fire. Menhir with a Celtic inscription in Latin characters.
