Located in the Manu since 1969, the arms archives centre (Centre des Archives de l'Armement - CAA) stores a collection of archives dating back to 1820, as well as personal civilian files from the ministry of defence since 1870. A precious source for historians, genealogists and history enthusiasts, the collection, from all the French arsenals, aeronautical centres and factories, includes a wide range of items: ship plans for model fans, technical documents about arm manufacturing from the Lebel gun to missiles, and documents about labour regulations for the workers and gunsmiths. Home to the collection of the town’s former arms factory, in operation from 1920 to 1968, the arms archive centre is an important site for local history. A reading room where you can discover the wealth of this heritage is freely accessible to all visitors during opening hours, or by appointment.
