Lana Asaad, a former Iraqi-Kurdish journalist, opened her vegetarian tea room “Lemon and Cerise” in 2019 in Châtellerault. An emblematic personality of the city, come and discover his passion for cakes. Certified 100% homemade pastries, in a warm interior.

Hello Lana, you have a
atypical story. After being a
great journalist in Iraq, you have decided
to settle in Châtellerault. For what
chose to live here?

Lana: I was lucky enough to be able to leave
my country during the war and I chose to
come to France, because it is here that I spent
wonderful vacation with my family.
After being invited to friends who
live in Châtellerault, I decided to go there
install. I think it's a beautiful city,
the people of Châtelleraud are very welcoming and I
I never felt like a stranger there.

Your journey is astonishing and atypical. Can you tell us where you came from
the idea of creating your tea room?

Lana: I have always been passionate about
pastry. I like to play with flour,
sugar, chocolate. I love to smell the smell
coffee, butter and above all smell the
delicious aromas of cakes coming out
from the oven. Pastry is also the art of
create: I lead a dance between all my
ingredients until getting news
innovative flavors. My secret is that
I try new recipes every day
and I only use ingredients and
flavors that I like. I would like to thank the
Soroptimist Club, the Chamber of Trades, the
Town Hall… Everyone who helped and guided me on this new path.

Hmm, it makes us want to taste
your cakes in any case. And what is then
your greatest joy?

Your words are truly inspiring.
If you were a season, which
would you be?

Lana: My greatest joy is to observe-
to see the pleasure of the people who come
taste my pastries. Nothing makes me
happier than seeing the smiles and

looks filled with delicacies. The re-
positive reviews from my customers are my reason
to get up every morning. This is the result
of all the hours that I spend in my
cooking and it's really very rewarding.

Lana: Winter is the most beautiful for me
season: I love walking in the rain and
then warm myself under a big blanket
while drinking hot chocolate at the corner
my fireplace. Early in the morning, around 4 a.m.,
when I take the road to go to
my tea room, I smell the frosty freshness
mixed with the smell of hot bread coming out
from the bakery. These are moments
secrets that I only feel in winter.
Besides, my favorite holiday is Christmas!
It's magical, with all these lights, the
children excited by this magical atmosphere.
I truly love this time of year.

Finally, if you had to create a Christmas pastry, what would it be?

Lana: Winter cakes are generally more indulgent and comforting. Chocolate is the “master” of winter. I would pair it with cinnamon and orange. This is a very nice winter blend. Otherwise I would also make caramel and chocolate cupcakes with a good Christmas green tea.
