Today I'm boarding the Vienne again, I'll end up getting my sea legs! And yes, I discovered one of the flagship activities of Châtellerault: the boat trip aboard the John Martin. The name already makes me want to travel..
The boat is done directly on the canal of the industrial site of the Manufacture de Châtellerault, I was immediately immersed in the bath and in the history of this city. From the parking lot where I parked my van, next to the Le Grand Atelier Museum, I immediately locate the starting point thanks to the Vilmouth Towers, these two large chimneys that you can climb to have an unrivaled view of Chatellerault.
A little further on, I see the cabana moored on the canal. I have never seen such a boat, its look, all in wood, is charming and I just want to go for a walk! On arrival, I am warmly welcomed by Bruno and Carole, the captain and his cabin boy. They explain to me that the John Martin, from its nickname, is a wooden boat of around ten meters, which was formerly used for fishing or river transport.
So it's Jehan Martin, sightseeing boat which will allow me to discover the city from another angle. I sit comfortably on board, I am pleasantly surprised by the silence of the engines. Instantly, at the sight of the water, I relax. It's an hour of scenery and slow tourism who is waiting for me. The trees pass by, their reflections on the water calm me. I also discover fauna and flora that I had not imagined.
The captain tells usmaritime and industrial history of Châtellerault and its surroundings and all this punctuated by a few little anecdotes which will remain in my memory. Arrived at Cenon-sur-Vienne, it's time to return, already... Time was as if suspended.
