Vacation time has come. And the mercury is flirting with 30 degrees: sunshine for all in Grand Châtellerault! I love these summer days where we can play overtime until late. This is an opportunity to collect as much light as possible, essential for my balance.

During heat peaks, however, I had the reflex for a long time to hide behind the shutters between 12 p.m. and 16 p.m. But that was before having children! Needless to say, when someone over 5 asks “ Mom, whatIs What are we doing this afternoon? ", answer " nap » is not an option! This step therefore led me to think about suitable activities.

Enjoying Grand Châtellerault, even in high temperatures, is possible! Proof by five…

Soak up the old stones

I think what I like best when it's hot is immersing myself in heritage. What a joy to discover the history of Poitou, while enjoying the delicious natural freshness of an abbey or a castle!

I particularly recommend the guided tours of the Acadian farm of Archigny by Lucie, dressed in period costume. We come away rich in numerous anecdotes, in addition to better understanding the perilous fate of the exiles of New France.
I also like: Scorbé-Clairvaux castle, le Château des Ormesthe convent complex of LencloîtreSaint-Jacques church in Châtellerault…

Paddle the rivers

I will always remember the day when my son Hugo, in primary school at the time, understood that his dad was going to accompany him for a canoe trip. Stars shone in his eyes, still amazed by the images of the American Indians in their boats! Even though a life jacket replaced the beads and feathers, the magic happened.

It has since become a tradition: every summer, father and son embark on Vienne, Clain or Anglin, varying the circuits, the pleasures and the providers (La FourmyPMOCanoecolo…). Sometimes kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding replaces the canoe. This year, the simple rental will be transformed into a guided hike with a picnic on arrival. Beautiful moments of complicity in perspective…

Enjoy an artisanal ice cream

One of my favorite chocolate shops, La Mélusine in Châtellerault, offers fruity sorbets and creamy ice creams in three forms: stick with crunchy coating, balls in a cone or pot.

Our family trip to rue Bourbon often ends with the scent of caramel coulis fleur de sel for my darling, mango passion fruit for Hugo, chocolate for Arthur and vanilla pecan for my apple.

All preparations of The Melusine are homemade, with fresh, quality products. And you can feel it! So the organic yogurt for the ice cream “Yoghurt with strawberry coulis” comes from the famous farm Le Pré Joly in Saint-Gervais-les-Trois-Clochers. A delight…

The master craftsman makes a few tables available in front of the shop. Very practical for all ages to eat without getting stained!

Dive into the deep end

Throughout his outings with friends or family, my eldest son has become a specialist in the aquatic centers of Grand Châtellerault. In summer, his favorite is undoubtedly that of Saint-Gervais-les-Trois-Clochers. In the green, away from the city, the outdoor T-shaped pool provides an immediate change of scenery.

Young people love the large slide, the water jets, as well as the lawn area with children's games, volleyball and badminton courts, ping-pong table... The joyful holiday atmosphere that reigns in the Saint-Gervais-les-Trois-Clochers swimming pool knew how to seduce me too.

Take a refreshing break

Having a drink on the terrace is one of my little holiday pleasures. In the shade of course, when the sun shines freely.

In Châtellerault, I have my habits at Lemon & Cherry, where the adorable Lana concocts fruity iced teas and pretty cakes to die for!
Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 18:30 p.m.

For your aperitifs, I advise you to visit, in her Ouzilly cellar, the winegrower-oenologist Isabelle Bureau du Domaine des Renardières. I always leave with a bottle of Rosé de Gamay (IGP Val de Loire), ideal for summer evenings with friends. As for its Sauvignon blanc (AOC Haut-Poitou), it goes perfectly with a platter of oysters and seafood. Tel: 06 47 04 71 38 • To be enjoyed in moderation.

I hope this article has quenched your thirst for refreshing outing ideas. Have a nice summer everyone in Grand Châtellerault!
