Here we are in December... It's time to think about Christmas gifts!

I like to take the time to think about the attentions that will delight my loved ones. This year, in order to be in line with the values of slow tourism that I defend, the presents under the tree will be handmade locally.

After a dive in the know-how from Grand Châtellerault, I take a breath to give you my selection. Four women, four men, eight virtuosos with golden fingers. And five raw materials that they shape wonderfully…

WOOD

Caroline Degorce, interior designer, and Gérald Janniaux, art cabinetmaker, settled in Bonneuil-Matours in 2017. Their company called Lexeme Design launched a new concept, between sculpture and decorative object. You may already know their archicubes…

These modular elements, made from oak or walnut, can make up bookcases, tables, benches, vases or simply decorative structures.

My favorite : In line with their eco-responsible approach, Caroline and Gérald make original brooches et earings from their scrap wood.

THE LEATHER

In her workshop in Doussay, Claire Lassalle restores and creates, if necessary, to measure. The craftswoman began by training in the profession of saddler and harness maker at the French national stud farms. Passionate about this noble material, she decided to follow up with a diploma in leather goods.

Lovers of horse riding, beautiful car seats or fashion accessories, everyone will find what they are looking for at Antique Cuir.

My favorite : The belts to order, for which you can choose the width, the color, and even the type of loop!

THE FABRIC

One of the “Best Workers in France” serving an art from one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”: what a poster! Les Jours d'Angles is a refined embroidery technique that will soon be bicentenary. Both sober and complex, it consists of creating openwork patterns on textile works (linen, cotton or silk).

Since 2003, Stéphanie Michaud has been one of the openworkers who perpetuate the tradition. In 2015, the designer became their standard bearer thanks to the prestigious title of MOF. Today, she alternates between creations Days of Angles and individual or group lessons.

My favorite : Le bow tie, Célestin or Ferdinand series, is one of the essentials in the Dandy wardrobe.

THE PAPER

A Fine Arts student in Stuttgart then Paris, Eva Aurich chose to settle down in Poitou. For 20 years, she has divided her time between her workshop in nature in Archigny and the plastic arts school in Châtellerault where she teaches painting and drawing.

The artist also devotes himself to photography and printmaking. You can discover his work at exhibitions or on his website. Reception in Archigny by appointment.

My favorite : To compose your “Fresh portraits”, Eva uses the cyanotype process which consists of placing an object on a photosensitive surface. Here some nettles on paper. These photograms will appeal to all those who see life in blue!

METAL

Since the 14th century, Châtellerault has been one of the most recognized cutlery centers in the kingdom. This know-how was largely at the origin of the establishment of the Arms Manufacture in 1819. Today, three artisan cutlers have taken up the torch...

• At the head of Chatel'Couteaux, Michel Richard waited for a first retirement to reconnect with his adolescent vocation: the making of Damascus blades from natural materials. Visits to his workshop (by appointment) are fascinating!
39 rue Maurice Vlaminck in Châtellerault

• In the window of his store, Christian Baudinière is proud to present two models that he designed himself: Le Châtellerault and The Manuchard, name given in homage to the workers of the city's emblematic industrial site.
29 rue Bourbon in Châtellerault

• Former stonemason, Adrien Boulmer retrained following his meeting with Michel Delanghe, an art craftsman in Vicq-sur-Gartempe. In his Grizzly forge, the young man developed a flagship model, the folding knife. The Pictave. Adrien also welcomes the public for one to three day courses.
22 La Balière in Vicq-sur-Gartempe

And also…

For even more artisanal and local gift ideas, I recommend the Tourist Office shop of Grand Châtellerault, as well as its three thematic chalets located on the Christmas market 2020 in Châtellerault from December 11 to 24.

With these good addresses, you have the opportunity to support local artists/artisans and offer unique pieces to those you love. Because they are worth it!
